Versatile OTDRs tackle access, metro, and long-haul networks

-- Test & Measurement World, 3/29/2007 9:32:00 AM

EXFO’s E-Series optical time-domain reflectometers enable end-to-end characterization of optical networks, offering the versatility needed to test long-haul, metro, and access links with a single OTDR . These multipurpose instruments offer high dynamic range of up to 45 dB for long-haul testing, as well as short dead zones (high resolution) for fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) applications.

Inserted in either the FTB-200 Compact Platform or the FTB-400 Universal Test System, the E-Series OTDRs can test as many as four wavelengths (1310, 1383, 1550, and 1625 nm) for legacy, CWDM, and DWDM link characterization. Each of the 40-Gbps-ready modules provides up to 256,000 sampling points for higher trace resolution and an event dead zone of 0.8 m and attenuation dead zone of 4 m for pinpoint event location.
