IPD VA3X vision appliances support single- or dual-camera applications

-- Test & Measurement World, 5/17/2007 5:13:00 AM

Dalsa has announced the release of two versions of its IPD VA3X vision appliances. The VA30 comes with the vendor’s standard iNspect vision-appliance software, while the sister VA31 version additionally includes the vendor's Sherlock machine-vision graphical design environment.

"The VA3X offers over twice the performance of our popular VA2X products," says Steve Geraghty, Director of DALSA IPD. "We've upgraded the processor and system resources to support applications that demand higher throughput or greater image resolution. The VA3X is footprint, software and electrically compatible with the VA2X, providing familiar compact solutions that are quick to configure and easy to interface."

As with the VA2X products, the VA3X incorporates its processing power inside the camera controller, as opposed to the camera head. This allows users to position it alongside other automation controllers for easy interfacing and have the benefit of small camera heads for easy mounting. The dual-camera capability of the product also provides cost savings in multi-camera applications.

The VA30 comes with software preinstalled on the device, thus eliminating version control problems. The iNspect application interface is exposed through a standard web browser on a connecting network computer, thus providing "connect and go" capability. The device is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet-compliant network connection that allows a real-time image feed to the web browser. Alternatively, for users who prefer in-place setup, the VA31 offers the ability to connect keyboard, mouse and monitor directly to the unit.

Housed in DIN-mountable enclosures, the VA3X products are equipped with industrial-grade I/O connections located on the front; they include status lights for each input and output connection to help application debugging. On the sensor side, the VA3X provides users with standard sensor resolutions of 640x480 and 1024x768 pixels; resolutions to 1600x1200 are available.

Base price: $3795.
