OptoTest insertion/return loss meter works up to 200 m

-- Test & Measurement World, 6/25/2007 11:42:00 AM

An updated release of OptoTest's OP930 loss instrument performs simultaneous measurement of insertion loss and return loss in optical fibers at distances of up to 200 m. Automated measurements are performed without matching gel or mandrel wraps at the far end of the cable.

The benchtop instrument, which contains a stabilized single-wavelength or dual-wavelength transmitter and an optical power meter, can be configured to work with single-mode or multimode fiber-optic cables, including Gigabit Ethernet and FTTx applications. The single-mode version is capable of measuring return loss up to 72 dB, while the multimode version measures return loss up to 50 dB. The units display both insertion loss and return loss for two wavelengths at the same time on one screen.

A built-in USB interface and OPL-Pro software allow you to control measurements from a remote PC and log data for statistical analysis.
