Global testing and certification services firm TUV SUD America is upgrading its San Diego, CA, test laboratory with the equipment necessary to test to European standard IEC 61000-4-3 Edition 3 to 6 GHz. This standard affects medical equipment, information technology and electronics products, laboratory equipment, and other commercial goods that will be exported and sold in the European Union.
IEC 61000-4-3 has long been accepted as the basic test standard for radiated electromagnetic field immunity testing in order to satisfy one of many European Union requirements for the CE mark. Changes in IEC 61000-4-3 Edition 3 include a new harmonic distortion requirement, new linearity check, an extended frequency range, and new test table material requirements.
TUV’s laboratory will be equipped with solid-state amplifiers manufactured by Ophir FR. The amplifiers will be mounted into a custom rack system and, when used with a Beammaster antenna and an Agilent signal generator, give the lab the ability to test to the latest IEC 61000-4-3 Edition 3 requirements. Combined with the lab’s existing EMC test chambers and extensive test capabilities, this new equipment enhances TUV’s ability to perform safety and electromagnetic testing to the latest standards.
