Faro enhances laser-based measurement arm

-- Test & Measurement World, 1/9/2008 4:48:00 PM

Version 3 of Faro Technologies' Laser ScanArm is 30% more accurate, 33% lighter, and offers better performance in scanning dark or reflective surfaces than the company’s V2 model.

Equipped with a fully integrated laser scanner, the seven-axis contact/noncontact measurement device can be used for inspection, point cloud-to-CAD comparison, rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, and 3-D modeling. It delivers 35-µm accuracy compared to the 50-µm accuracy of the V2 model. What’s more, the V3 offers Bluetooth cable-free operation. When equipped on the Quantum series, the Laser ScanArm can scan up to 30 ft away without requiring cables or interface boxes. Additionally, the Laser ScanArm V3 has a 50% faster warm-up time than the V2.

Compatible with Faro’s Platinum FaroArm and portable Quantum FaroArm, the Laser ScanArm V3 lets you collect simple point variations with the arm’s hard probe, then laser scan sections requiring larger volumes of data, without adding or removing attachments, untangling cabling, or having to use and import data from a separate CMM.

The Laser ScanArm works with Direct Dimensions’ Geomagic, Polyworks, and Rapid Form applications, as well as many other third-party software programs.
