Goepel demonstrates boundary-scan on Takaya flying prober at APEX
-- Test & Measurement World, 4/10/2008 9:35:00 AM
Goepel electronic and Texmac demonstrated the integration of Goepel's Cascon Galaxy software and ScanFlex hardware into the Takaya APT-9411 flying-probe system at the APEX trade show.
"This successful integration demonstrates how Takaya flying-prober customers can benefit from Goepel's powerful Cascon software and ScanFlex hardware products," said Roy McKenzie, western region GM for Texmac's Takaya Group. "The Goepel boundary-scan integration extends the Takaya systems' overall capabilities, increasing test coverage and reducing overall test time."
"Combining the flexibility of the Takaya flying prober with Goepel's JTAG/boundary-scan test capabilities increases opportunities for both products in the market," said Heiko Ehrenberg, manager of US operations for Goepel Electronics. "By working together to develop this joint integration, we can offer a very powerful solution to the industry."
McKenzie and Ehrenberg cited several technical benefits of this integration. One is the ability to use the flying probes on the Takaya tester as "virtual scan pins" or boundary-scan I/O cells in all types of boundary-scan tests. This provides added test access and can improve the testability and test coverage of the unit-under- test. Second, test programs, including those utilizing the flying probes, can be created without requiring access to the flying-probe tester during the test development stage. Third, overall test time can also be reduced by eliminating redundant steps from the flying probe test program already covered by the boundary-scan test.
In terms of hardware, the integration is based on the ScanFlex PCI controller models SFX/PCI1149-x with programmable TCK frequencies up to 20 MHz (A type) and 50 MHz (B type). The UUT connection is completed by using a ScanFlex TAP transceiver model
SFX-TAP4/CR, which provides four parallel TAPs with interposing relays and up to eight programmable interface parameters for the optimal adaptation to the UUT. The ScanFlex TAP-Transceiver with CION interface enables the direct control of the UUT's scan chains over distances up to 1.5 m. No additional signal conditioning electronics is required. The flying probes are linked to Goepel's SFX-5704 I/O module during boundary-scan tests. This mixed-signal I/O module can be used to measure and drive digital signals on each probe and to scan analog voltages.
In terms of software, GOEPEL electronic's boundary-scan tool suite Cascon Galaxy was integrated into the Takaya flying-probe tester and can be configured per enable codes to provide the desired set of features. The Takaya software and the Cascon software communicate with each other to initialize the boundary-scan test or in-system programming execution and to move the flying probes to the specified probing positions during the boundary-scan applications.
Control of the flying probes is managed with the integrated SFX-5704 module by means of Hyscan technology implemented in Cascon Galaxy. Hyscan enables the synchronization of serial JTAG/boundary-scan test vectors with parallel test vectors. The parallel vectors are linked to the physical I/O interface at run time, providing tester hardware independence. Test generation, debugging, and fault diagnostic are all done within the Cascon Galaxy environment, transparent to the user, even with the flying probes acting as boundary-scan pins at the contacted nets.
