StingRay Optics offers 50-mm MWIR large-format lens

-- Test & Measurement World, 4/22/2008 8:42:00 AM

Intended for use with cooled cameras having focal planes of up to 28 mm diagonal, StingRay Optics’ 50-mm mid-wave infrared (MWIR) large-format lens assembly can be used as a stand-alone solution for large-format detectors or upgraded with microscanning and step-stare sensor capability for enhanced imaging requirements.

The speed of the lens is based on an F/2.3 cold shield arrangement and the 50-mm focal length of the lens is derived from the required 1-m sampling area at an operating distance of 2.5 km. The MWIR large-format lens assembly offers diffraction-limited performance over the entire field of view, which enables the microscan image enhancement feature to achieve the highest potential clarity.

The microscanning system for which the lens was originally developed is being used to determine the inherent benefits of image dithering and processing with an emphasis on decreasing ground sampling distances. Simultaneously, the system’s step and staring field-of-view feature is intended to explore both optical and mechanical methods to rapidly survey and stitch the field of view to produce a system with a substantially larger field of regard.
