JAI expands GigE Vision camera suite

JAI has added the BM-500GE (monochrome) and BB-500GE (raw Bayer color) 5-Mpixel cameras with a GigE Vision interface to its three-tier C3 Camera Suite. These models join the recently announced 5-Mpixel Camera Link model in the Basic tier of the C3 line of cameras. The new models, which are built around the Sony ICX625 2/3-in. CCD sensor (2448x2050 pixels) and can operate at 15 fps, feature a Sequence Trigger Mode that allows the user to predefine on-the-fly changes to gain, shutter, and the region-of-interest (ROI) settings for a repeating sequence of up to 10 consecutive triggers. JAI says this capability is useful on automated production lines where items being inspected might require different settings for different regions of the object, or where different settings are needed to properly inspect for different types of defects within the same ROI. Potential applications for the BM-500GE and BB-500GE include printed-circuit-board inspection and automotive parts inspection.
In-camera preprocessing functions include automatic white balance, a look-up table for dealing with difficult lighting conditions, and a blemish compensation function which eliminates pixels with extremely low or high output characteristics by interpolating the neighboring pixels.
