Falcon's UPS SNMP/HTTP agent enhances network security

-- Test & Measurement World, 9/24/2008 2:00:00 PM

Falcon Electric’s internal USHA (UPS SNMP/HTTP Agent) enables TCP/IP-based remote monitoring and management of uninterruptible power supplies over any Ethernet LAN, enterprise network, or the Internet. The agent board, which installs into the communications option slot of any Falcon SG, SSG, or FN series of uninterruptible power supplies, supports the security-enhanced SNMP V3 (Simple Network Management Protocol) and IP V6 (Internet Protocol) to create a highly secure system for remote UPS monitoring and management.

With Falcon’s USHA, you can perform event and data logging, unattended event scheduling such as battery testing and weekly/daily shutdown, and advanced monitoring and management functions. Whether a facility has 10 supplies or 10,000, all units can be managed and monitored from a single secure location from a computer running any common operating system. Remote access is accomplished using most common Web browsers, or for MS Windows OS, through the use of NMS (Network Management Software), such as HP OpenView or IBM NetView, using the supplied RFC1628-compliant UPS MIB (Management Information Base).

Shutdown client software is supplied with the USHA option that allows for the orderly remote shutdown of multiple servers and workstations in-band over Ethernet networks. Simply install the client software, set the shutdown delay time, and enter the IP address of the controlling UPS’s USHA. Shutdown client software is available for Windows, SCO (OpenServer and UnixWare), Linux, Novell NetWare, Sun Solaris, HP UX, SCO Unix, and FreeBSD.

The UPS SNMP/HTTP Agent costs $290 and is CE and FCC compliant.
