Sundance debuts PXI Express DSP/FPGA platform

-- Test & Measurement World, 10/7/2008 5:00:00 PM

In conjunction with becoming a member of the PXI System Alliance, Sundance announced that it will be introducing a range of PXI Express products for DSP/FPGA multiprocessor systems. To support the launch, the company has inked an agreement with Kane Computing to be the exclusive distributor of its PXI Express products in the United Kingdom.

Product roll out begins with the SMT7 Series, which comprises more than 25 modular PXI Express DSP/FPGA solutions. The SMT702 provides eight PXI Express lanes and two channels of 3-GHz analog-to-digital conversion that can be combined to deliver 6 Gsamples/s. It also features clock circuitry, two banks of DDR2 memory, and a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA optimized for logic and serial I/O.

Serving as a generic building block is the SMT700 carrier board, which brings FPGA acceleration to PXI Express systems. The SMT700 employs a Virtex-5 LXT or SXT device, which can be configured either through the onboard flash or through the Xilinx JTAG header. It includes a direct connection to an SLB (Sundance Local Bus) mezzanine card, without the need for a Sundance TIM. This enables a variety of cards to be added to a system, providing Ethernet, video in/out, ADC, and DAC functions. Data from these additional cards, along with data from the SMT700’s own inputs—Gigabit Ethernet, 2.5-Gbps optical inks, and Rocket Serial Links—can be processed via the Virtex-5 or by another linked card or module.
