Agilent's handheld DMM boasts OLED display

-- Test & Measurement World, 11/20/2008 7:00:00 AM

According to Agilent Technologies, its U1253A handheld digital multimeter is the first of its kind to use an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display. The OLED readout provides a 2000:1 contrast ratio, a 160-degree viewing angle, smoothed fonts, and a large-display mode to ensure crystal-clear indoor viewing, even in the dark and off-angle situations.

The U1253A expands Agilent’s U1250 series of handheld DMMs and is designed to simplify electronic troubleshooting and validation. In addition to its 50,000-count dual display, it provides true-RMS AC and DC measurements, up to 0.025 percent basic DCV accuracy, 1000 data points of manual logging, USB connectivity, and built-in 20-MHz frequency counter and programmable square-wave generator. You can achieve virtually unlimited datalogging when you connect the meter to a PC with the optional IR-to-USB cable. The U1253A also performs temperature measurements using J and K type thermocouples.

The meter comes in an over-mold enclosure, is rated for Cat III 1000 V overvoltage protection, and operates over a temperature range of –20°C to +55°C. Bundled accessories include alligator clips, silicone test leads, rechargeable Ni-MH battery and power adapter, GUI datalogging software, certificate of calibration, and test report. Option 001 supplies SMT grabbers, fine-tip test probes, and a soft carrying case. The U1253A costs $449.
