LXI Moving Ahead on Schedule
September 11, 2006

At the PlugFest recently held in Cleveland, a team of people from LXI member companies made real progress on a multivendor demonstration. This demonstration will be the centerpiece of the LXI booth at the upcoming AutoTestcon trade show in Anaheim and Electronica in Munich, Germany.

The goal of the demonstration that Elgar Electronics is participating in, the Class C demo, is to show how different vendor's LXI devices integrate easily with different Test and Measurement (T&M) control software packages and how easy it is within these control packages to move from GPIB to LXI. This was the first time I was able to work directly with senior software developers from such companies as National Instruments, The MathWorks, Agilent, and Data Translation. The learning curve was very steep, and most of the key software packages could quickly control my Sorensen 600 Watt DLM programmable power supply.

As the demonstration has taken shape I can now visualize how LXI will be easy for the T&M industry to adapt to their systems. It was also great to see GPIB devices working along side LXI devices. This means Elgar's customers can switch to LXI as they buy new power supplies rather than having to convert over whole systems at one time.--Peter Allen, Elgar Electronics
