Keeping class B instruments synchronized
September 12, 2006
An interesting situation developed during the PlugFest in Cleveland that provided some insight into dealing with real world conditions we may be faced with. While testing class B instruments for conformance to the specification, the instruments suddenly went out of synchronization. There was no logical explanation for this development, and we scratched our heads for a long time trying to find the cause. Ultimately, we determined that because the instrument address is assigned randomly by the system, electrical interference in the area could alter the address code. The situation was easily corrected by assigning a permanent address to each instrument. Once we did this, compliance testing proceeded without a hitch.--Fred Bode, LXI Consortium Administrator
