China industry enthusiastic about LXI
October 30, 2006

During the last week of September, I addressed two industry groups in China, both of whom showed a great deal of interest in the benefits of LXI. The first presentation was in Zhangjinjie, sponsored by the Chinese LXI users group, a government sponsored group of researchers and professors interested in advancing LXI in China. About 200 scientists, engineers and professors attended this meeting. They told us the China LXI users group is represented by 132 companies, with both the users group and several individual companies expressing interest in joining the LXI Consortium. Companies such as Shaanxi Hi Tech are already members of the worldwide LXI Consortium, and the Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology (SIRL) expressed interest in becoming a local Asian certification test lab.

The second meeting in Xi’an was attended primarily by engineers from aerospace and defense companies, as well as a number of systems integrators. The attendees at both meetings were attracted by LXI’s ability to handle a large number of test nodes easily and the long-term stability that is so important to test systems. Attendees were also impressed by LXI’s communication speed, flexibility and the ease of use compared to GPIB and card-cage implementations.

This was the first LXI user group meeting in China and provided a venue for Chinese customers to share the results of their study of LXI technology and applications. It also opened the door for discussing possible future LXI meetings in China. These meetings confirm the interest in LXI around the world, paving the way for LXI to become accepted globally as the standard for instrument communication.--Bob Rennard, Agilent Technologies, LXI Consortium President

What about political issues? I read Microsoft is considering pulling out of China due to corruption and freedom issues.
