Demand for LXI power supplies growing
January 8, 2007
Elgar Electronics is seeing increased demand for LXI Class C programmable power supplies. Customers are making the change because they like the ability to control power supplies over much longer distances than GPIB permits. They also appreciate the simple changeover from GPIB to LXI, via a VISA layer change.
One customer is using this capability to run design verification tests (DVTs) and collect data from a remote desktop computer. Test engineers are able to run scripts and view results from their offices without having to physically be in the lab.
Another customer has moved the power supplies on a test rack close to the unit under test (UUT), in this case an aircraft, but has placed the test stand controls at a separate location. Ethernet controls allow this larger distance.
These customers see that LXI Class A and B instruments may give them more capabilities in the future, but their current needs require only Class C capabilities.--Peter Allen, Elgar Electronics
