When ESD gets too close
June 11, 2007

I received a shock over the weekend...almost a big one.

I was in a skating rink when I heard a loud bang. It was lightning that hit about 100 feet from the building. I looked out the window and saw smoke rising from amidst the trees across the parking area. Just beyond the trees is where the local department of public works store its gasoline supply for town vehicles. Fortuntely, there was no explosion, but it was still scary. Click here to see a local news story about it. If you look at the video, you'll see some trees in the background behind the football field. That's where the rink is located.

If you've never been that close to a lightning strike, consider yourself lucky.
