Trade shows and the deathly hallows
November 1, 2007

Yesterday, I attended two trade shows in the same building: VON and Nepcon East. I conclude that holding a show with Halloween in the middle fo the week is a ghastly (or should I say "deathly") idea. It seemed like everyone at VON who could leave was doing so, mostly to get home in time for trick-or-treat. Several people noted that the show seemed smaller in both attendees and exhibitors than in previous years. I would agree, having attended VON in Boston for the last several years.

Nepcon fared better, though. I suspect that's because Nepcon draws a more local crowd that VON. Attendees of Nepcon may have been more likely from the local area and could more easily get home in time for the bewitching hour.

The VON people, to their credit, were certainly into the Halloween spirit. Several booths exhibited ghastly figures (see photo) as well as communications products.

Next year is far less of a problem for trade shows because Halloween will fall on a Friday.
