Any time left for real work?
March 14, 2007

According to an article from IEEE, you have little time for real engineering work. that's the conclusion I came to. According to a story of enginees, the typical engineer spends nearly half of his or her time in meetings and communicates mostly by e-mail, often sending and reading e-mails during meetings. If you're reading this posting, you're also a typical engineer, who relies primarily on the Internet for information.

Yet, despite all I hear about the Internet, I constantly hear readers say that they like to get a magazine that shows up on their desk. Which do you prefer?

As a test manager of several world wide dispersed software test programs, I spend 10-15 hours in front of my computer every day including when i get home. E-mail is the prime mover of communications and disemination of data to as many as 50 engineers on a regular basis. I need the latest technical information ASAP to incorporate it into the mangerial process being worked. To that affect I also use a PDA daily as well as my cell phone...and a combination of internet info as well as magazine scaning, local paper info, and now blog reviews...I will take the required info from any source I can obtain it and bring it together to help the testing process that may be at hand or is percieved to come up in the near future...managing complex programs and test teams is getting more and more complex in less and less time..there is much helpful information out there and I believe that all forms of media need to be brought together to solve the problems at hand.....
