DTV starting to make news
February 27, 2007

Yesterday, I saw for the first time, a TV piece about the transition to DTV. "The DTV Revolution" appeared in a segment on WCVB, Channel 5 in Boston. Finally, the broadcasters are starting to tell viewers about the DTV transition that will occur on Feb. 17, 2009. I still think the following day will bring an uproar from people everywhere.

Have you seen anything about the switch to DTV broadcasting? Let me know by posting a comment.

It's Sept '07 as I write, and the home websites of major Boston broadcasters are doing nothing to promote awareness of the '09 DTV switchover. My guess is that DTV is a money looser in the Boston market, and that broadcasters would welcome some grass roots pushback. On the otherhand, cable and other broadband dominate diffusion, so in Boston I don't think there will be a serious protest against the mandatory DTV switchover. Plus you can advise those few loosers stuck on analogue OTA (and there will be very few of them) to go out and buy the converter box.
