Help him sweep towards a masters degree
September 18, 2007

A reader wrote the following to me:

I just read an article that you wrote [Generate a Swept Sine Test Signal] that was somewhat related to a project I'm working on for my master's thesis.  I was wondering if you had any ideas related to a problem I'm having, or know of where I may find some information that's relevant.
I'm trying to create a forcing function (i.e., signal) in Matlab and Simulink that represents a continuous frequency sweep from .5 to 20 hz over a period of 105 seconds, with constant maximum peak velocity of 100 mm/s.  I am having a hard time figuring out how to create such a signal both mathematically and in matlab.  My background is really in mathematics, not engineering, so I am not too familiar with the creation of these types of signals.
If you have any such Matlab code, please contact me at m.rowe@tmworld.com and I'll put you in contact with this student.
