How do you test your tester?

Greetings from Austin, where I'm here for NI Week. While speaking with an engineer today, the topic of how you test  and maintain your test systems. You probably send the instruments in your systems for periodic calibration, but do you check system perfromance inbetween calibrations? Dou you build test fixtures for test systems?
