iPod: Back to the EMI lab?
May 11, 2007

Yesterday, Reuters reported on a study that showed EMI from iPods interfering with cardiac pacemakers. The report said that "Electrical interference was detected half of the time when the iPod was held just 2 inches from the patient's chest for 5 to 10 seconds" based on 100 senior citizens to were involved in the study by 17-year old Jay Thaker.

Granted, relatively few senior citizens, and even fewer who have pacemakers, walk around with iPods. But still, it's reason for concern. It looks like another problem for a good EMI engineer to solve.

Jay, make sure you include the study in your college applications. Admissions officers like this sort of thing.
