Maxwell's legacy
June 7, 2007

"Historians acknowledge Maxwell to be the most important physicist of the 19th century, the equal of Einstein and Newton" writes James C. Rautio in his article "Maxwell's Legacy," reprinted in the Spring 2007 issue of the IEEE EMC Society Newsletter. The article originally apeared the June 2005 issue of IEEE Microwave Magazine, but I'm not a Microwave Society member so I didn't see it two years ago. Rautio's article describes James Clerk Maxwell's contributions to electromagnetics and it provides insight into Maxwell's thought process.

Normally, article in IEEE print publications are available to society memebers only, but this one is an exception. Go to http://www.sonnetsoftware.com/bio/maxwell.asp where you can download the article from a link near the bottom of the page. Rautio has also painstakingly digitized a book on Maxwell's life. You can download the entire book from the above link, too.
