Can't have it both ways
May 7, 2007
In my posting on April 26 titled "In their own backyard--eventually," I commented on Verizon having to deal with every city and town in Massachusetts to obtain video licenses. Texas chose to opt for the statewide licensing, which the cable operators fight tooth and nail. They wanted to have their cake and eat it, too. While filing a lawsuit against the statewide video law, the cable operators were deploying video. Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. At least in Massachusetts, both the cable operators and the telcos must apply to each city and town for a video license. It may take more effort, but communities maintain control over video distribution.
