Threats and studies
October 6, 2006

I just read Rick Nelson's "Stereotype threats" about a study that says men are smarter than women. That study is, quite simply, a joke. Why? It was conducted by a man. Anyone can devise a study to get the results that he or she wants. Surely, you can find stodies that say whites are smarter than minorities, conservatives are smarter than liberals, southerners are smarter than northerners, or westerners are smarter than easterners (or vice versa to any of these comparisons). Studies like the one Nelson describes aren't worth the paper they're printed on nor the disk space they consume.
