Qualcomm asks White House help in patent dispute
June 11, 2007
The Supreme Court may have injected some common sense into US patent law, but that’s no help to Qualcomm in its dispute with Broadcom. Last year, an International Trade Commission (ITC) administrative found that Qualcomm's cellular baseband chips infringe five claims of a US patent that relates to power conservation in cellular phones.
Late Thursday, the ITC ordered that certain Qualcomm chips that reputedly infringe on Broadcom patents and downstream products that incorporate them be barred from importation into the US.
But Qualcomm is refusing to passively accept the latest ruling. It is taking its case all the way to the White House and asking President Bush to veto the ITC’s ruling. Electronic News has the complete story.
