Patent trolls win another
July 22, 2006
Boston Communications Group (BCGI) and Freedom Wireless announced yesterday that they have signed a agreement settling and dismissing Freedom Wireless’s patent litigation against BCGI and its carrier customers. BCGI will pay the patent troll $55.3 million.
Perhaps BCGI’s announcement that it has received an inquiry from the Securities and Exchange Commission about dating of options grants to executives in the period from 1998 to 2002, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, encouraged it to try to cut its losses on at least one front.
