More on the stereotype threat
October 29, 2006

Here are two more items related to the stereotype threat phenomenon, which I commented on in my October Editor’s Note. First, in Education and Careers, Amy Laskowski comments on how positive reinforcement can improve women’s performance on math tests.

Second, Amanda Marcotte writing in the blog Pandagon comments that the stereotype threat negatively affects her video-game-playing performance! She also links to other related posts, one of which cites a study showing that white males perform poorly on math tests when subjected to a stereotype threat that Asian males have superior math skills.
