802.11n-capable tester emerges, next Wi-Fi standard remains elusive
October 31, 2005

Products compatible with what's envisioned for the Next Wi-Fi standard--IEEE 801.11n--are emerging despite continued uncertainty in 802.11n's progress. Azimuth Systems today debuted a MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) channel emulator that makes it easy to simulate real-world 802.11n-type multipath performance in a lab, and I commented in September on Airgo Networks' 240-Mbps MIMO chipset.

Other recent Wi-Fi news includes the emergence of the Enhanced Wireless Consortium (EWC), which proclaims itself the peace broker in the movement to faster WLANs. Is peace--and a formal standard--really at hand? My colleague Maury Wright at sibling publication EDN has his doubts, and so do I. Read more details in Maury's blog.
