Vision 2007 exhibit highlights PCB inspection
November 8, 2007

If you’ve been to a machine-vision tradeshow lately, you’ve probably seen exhibit after exhibit showcasing food-and-beverage and pharmaceutical applications, with vision systems inspecting fluid levels in bottles, counting pills, or reading “sell by” dates. So as a representative of the semiconductor and electronics industry, I was pleased to see at Vision 2007 several exhibits highlighting printed-circuit-board and related inspection applications.

Of particular note was Basler’s demonstration of a Sprint line-scan camera running at 140 kHz inspecting a PCB moving at 7 m/s. The company noted that semiconductors and electronics represent key market segments, along with medicine, renewable energies, security, and automation.

Also of note at Vision 2007—NI has introduced a family of smart cameras. See the related article.
