IEEE issues call to help
I just received the following e-mail from the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society, calling for money or test equipment to help the University of L’Aquila engineering department, which suffered losses in the recent earthquake. In particular, the call is for test equipment.
===================
Dear I&M Society Member,
As you all know by now, on April 6, L’Aquila, Italy was devastated by an earthquake, magnitude 6.3 on the Richter scale. The destruction is massive, and the death toll stands at 293, with more than 50,000 people displaced and homeless. Many of you may have wondered whether we have any I&M colleagues affected. The answer is yes.
The University of L’Aquila has suffered extensive damage. Some 10,000 to 15,000 buildings in the city were either damaged or destroyed, including the total collapse of a University dormitory. We have I&M colleagues at this University, as it is very well known for its Engineering School. Not only has there been loss of life, and destruction of buildings, but also loss of equipment. The scientific equipment in the university laboratories has been destroyed.
Our colleagues need our help. You can help in 2 ways:
1. Send a contribution directly to the University of L’Aquila to support their project to restart their didactic activity as soon as possible. The bank account name is: UNIVERSITA’ DEGLI STUDI DELL’AQUILA. The international code (IBAN code) is:
IT80T0300203601000400240569. The international swift code is:
BROMITR1A20. Please, insert the following sentence, in Italian, as the description for your money transfer: “contributo destinato al Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica e dell’Informazione”. It states that your donation will support their project to restart didactic activity by replacing lab equipment and restore the lab spaces.
2. Contribute some needed equipment, mainly general purpose instruments (oscilloscopes, DMMs, spectrum analyzers, waveform generators …) to restart the didactic labs. If you have any of this equipment and would be willing to donate it, please contact me at j.daher@ieee.org. I will then put you in touch with the appropriate people in L’Aquila.
Thank you in advance for coming together as a community and helping our own.
Warm regards,
Jorge Fernandez Daher
