Do you use PXI on the bench?

Many applications for PXI-based test systems are on production floors, but do you have a PXI-based system on your bench? I ask because we want to compare using PXI to traditional stand-alone instruments such as DMMs and oscilloscopes. We can compare specs, but we’d like to hear it from you about your experiences. Have you replaced box instruments with PXI? Would you like to? Have you considered PXI but chose to stay with box instruments? Why? Post a comment or send e-mail to m.rowe@tmworld.com.

Typically, people in our company prefer to use box instuments simply because of the familarity of the interface and they like use real knobs. The main problem with PXI is that it requires a computer and somebody to program a GUI.

We have been using PXI instruments for 2 years now, in production and for engineering testing. It has been a great solution to support engineering and test engineering testing. All of the instruments we need except a scope comes in one box. Easy to maintain, configure and to support. High reliability that the PXI has to offer, is also a key element to having a successful test system.
