  • Agilent goes solar

    November 20, 2009

I get press releases from Agilent Technologies almost daily. Most cover new products, but this one is different. The company announced that it has installed solar panels on the roof of its Santa Clara, CA headquarters. The company claims that the panels will produce about 7% of the site’s electricity needs and up to 30% during peak sunshine hours. Even more important, the company should reduce its consumption of fuel needed to generate electric power. That should help reduce climate change. Being in California where the weather almost never changes, Agilent gets lots of sun. I’d like to see every company in those sun-slpashed areas using solar power. That will leave some energy sources available for those of us here in ever-cloudy New England to keep the lights on.
