Heavy smoke ten years ago today

In our May 2009 cover article, “Finding firefighters through heavy smoke,” I reported on a research project at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) where faculty and students are developing an RF-based system for locating firefighters in burning buildings. It all started tragically ten years ago today when six firefighters lost their lives in a cold storage warehouse. The Worcester Telegram has special coverage today.
On November 30, WPI announced that the school has received a $1 million award to complete the work.
