  • What are the odds of this?

    October 26, 2011

This has nothing to do with electronics test, just life.

A room in my house has a ceiling plate where used to be a lighting fixture. I removed the plate the other day to paint the ceiling. Reattaching the plate was impossible because the screws were just barely long enough to hold the plate in place. Getting the first screw in wasn’t too bad, but I gave up on the second after 20 minutes. At one point, I went to attach the first screw while the second screw rested on top of a box (we recently moved in). I dropped the first screw and it hit the second screw, which went flying in between a night stand and a stack of three boxes. The screw’s threads were underneath the night stand with only the head visible. I had to move the three boxes to reach the fallen screw. The one that I had dropped from the ceiling landed safely on the box where the second screw had been.

What are the odds of the first screw hitting the second?
