Tales from the Test Lab
The UNH-IOL Premiers Blog
Welcome
We welcome you to our corner of Test & Measurement World’s website. We’d like to thank T&MW for this opportunity, and we look forward to engaging the community in fruitful and informative discussions. If you’d like to see a bit of history, check out this 2006 cover story written by Martin Rowe: http://www.tmworld.com/article/322422-Today_s_testing_tomorrow_s_engineers.php. We appreciate the support we’ve received from the test and measurement community over the years, and would like to return the favor by sharing our insights and perspectives into equipment, technologies, and issues we have encountered during our work at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL).
What We Do
The UNH-IOL focuses on testing services for data, telecom, and storage networking technologies, helping to cost-effectively speed go to market time for products. Our mission here at the Lab is two-fold; to provide a neutral environment to foster multi-vendor interoperability and conformance to data communications networking standards, and to educate students and prepare them for future employment in the industry. These top engineering students’ initiative, combined with the IOL staff’s deep domain expertise, creates a unique environment that gives our member companies access to in-depth testing techniques and creative problem solving abilities.

Our blog posts will reflect the wide variety of technologies that we test at the Lab. You can expect to see subject matter ranging from the most up-to-date and fastest Ethernet standards to innovation in mobile device interfaces, and from evolving broadband technologies to advancements in data storage, with many more topics in between.
The Goals of this Blog
We aim to share our testing experience in networking and data storage technologies in a way that is helpful, valuable and interactive. We’ll provide an instructive, from-the-bench perspective on cost effectively meeting network interoperability and conformance requirements for the industry. We will be posting on a weekly basis, with more posts when timeliness is of the essence.
We urge you to participate. Please reply to and comment on our posts. And please contact us if you’d like to see a certain topic covered.
Thank you for taking time to read our blog; we can’t wait to get started!

Marc, it is great! As the networks evolve, and the users in commercial and military areas grow exponentially, maintaining the vendor neutrality and standard agnosticity will be important.
Marc Sklar, UNH-IOL commented:
Vishnu – Thank you. The UNH-IOL’s independent status and state-of-the-art facility allow us to maintain a vendor-neutral environment and guarantee the security and confidentiality of all results, which are normally focused on interoperability and conformance testing. I’ll give you a call to discuss our testing services and answer any questions you may have.
