Test laser diodes with dual-channel picoammeter/voltage source
Janine Love - October 16, 2012
Keithley Instruments, Inc. has introduced a dual-channel picoammeter with dual ±30V independent, non-floating bias sources and 1fA measurement resolution. The Model 6482 picoammeter provides two independent picoammeter/source channels in a 2U, half-rack enclosure, allowing simultaneous 6-1/2-digit measurements across both channels. At 4-1/2-digit resolution, users can take up to 900 readings/second on each channel. The really cool thing about this instrument is that, with the use of GPIB cables, you can control four instruments simutaneosly. It is well suited for applications where you want to test multiple diodes in a single package, or quickly calibrate laser diodes.
Key Features:- Measurement accuracy: ±1% on the 2nA range
- Dynamic range: 1fA to 20mA
- Dynamic measurement range: 2nA to 20mA in decade steps
What you can do:
- Make measurements at multiple points simultaneously
- Measure dark currents and other low currents with 1fA resolution
- Switch off the front-panel display to avoid introducing light into measurements of photodiodes or other light-sensitive components
- Acquire ratio or delta measurements between the two completely isolated channels using front panel or GPIB
- Use Trigger Link feature to control multi-instrument test systems over standard GPIB and RS-232 interfaces
- Use a scaled 0-10V analog output to transmit data to DMMs, data acquisition boards, oscilloscopes, strip chart recorders, and other devices
- Program current and voltage limits to ensure device protection during critical points such as start of test, etc.
- Use rear panel triax inputs for making triaxial cable connections to minimize electrical noise
Applications
- Manufacturing component test
- Dual diode testing
- Semiconductor component testing
- Multi-pin component testing
- Dark current measurements
- Ion beam monitoring
- Electron microscopy
The U.S. list price of the Model 6482 Dual-Channel Picoammeter/Voltage Source is $3600, with sales beginning immediately. Units will ship from stock or within four weeks ARO
