LTE-A tester gains enhanced interference cancellation
Test & Measurement World Staff - July 23, 2012
Aeroflex has added eICIC (enhanced Inter Cell Interference Cancellation) support for HetNets (heterogeneous networks) to its TM500 LTE-Advanced Test Mobile platform. eICIC is an enhanced inter-cell interference-coordination technique specifically designed to improve the overall performance of HetNet deployments and is one of the main features specified for LTE-Advanced in 3GPP Release 10.
The main application of eICIC is to improve cell-edge performance and coverage in HetNet deployment scenarios where nodes of different types—macro, micro, and pico cells—have coverage areas that partially overlap. The TM500’s support for eICIC measurements, which applies to both FDD (frequency division duplex) and TDD (time division duplex), includes logging the eICIC-specific protocol messages and physical-layer measurements.
With this latest addition to the TM500 Test Mobile, engineers developing and testing LTE base stations (eNodeB) can verify the correlation between the measurements reported by the UE and eNodeB signaling to validate the benefits of interference management.
