Solder-in accessories fortify oscilloscope probing

Test & Measurement World Staff - August 24, 2012

Semipermanent solder-in probe accessories for Agilent’s InfiniiMax III oscilloscope probing system aid in high-speed digital-system design, component design and characterization, and differential serial-bus measurements. InfiniiMax III differential active probes deliver up to 30 GHz of bandwidth to the probe tip and are compatible with Infiniium 90000 X and Q series of oscilloscopes.

The N2836A solder-in head provides a semipermanent connection with up to 26 GHz of system bandwidth. The ZIF (zero insertion force) tip and solder-in head come preattached with a pair of damping resistors for eliminating the distortion and loading that affect probes with in-band resonances. What’s more, these 130-Ω axial resistors can be easily replaced when they are worn out or damaged.

Supplied in a set of five, N2838A 25-GHz ZIF tips come with plastic forks to assist in soldering the tips to the device under test. Each tip employs a PC board substrate for durability.

The N2836A solder-in head costs $1200; the N2838A ZIF tip set costs $400.
