Hub adds USB instrument control to PXI systems
Test & Measurement World Staff - October 17, 2012
A single-slot 3U PXI card, Pickering Interfaces’ 40-738 USB 2.0 hub allows data to be streamed to and from USB devices using the PXI backplane and the PXI controller’s PCI interface.
The eight-port hub can be used to attach USB devices under test or USB test equipment to the test system, providing standard USB 0.5-A power on all channels.
Output ports are connected and disconnected programmatically to simulate the mechanical connection of a USB device to the module. Additionally, each port has the ability to connect and disconnect the power and data paths separately, enabling the simulation of various connection faults.
The 40-738 allows the expansion of USB capacity without the need for a freestanding hub and protects the host controller from the attachment of faulty DUTs. Furthermore, it provides a simple means of expanding the range of test equipment that can be supported by a PXI-based system to include power meters, scopes, and data-acquisition products.
Price: $1542.
