Anritsu improves OTDR’s optical performance
Test & Measurement World Staff - October 23, 2012
Enhancements to Anritsu’s MT9083 Access Master OTDR enable it to meet the testing requirements of high-speed optical networks—from premise to access, metro to core—including PON-based FTTx networks with up to a 1×128 split.
The series now offers up to 150,000 data points for accurate mapping of
events, dead zones of less than 1 meter, and a dynamic range of up to 46 dB.
The series’ improved dynamic range and performance of mid-range pulse widths provide better resolution. This eliminates the need to test at multiple pulse widths, reducing measurement time and simplifying testing. In addition, all models in the MT9083 series feature user-selectable high-resolution and enhanced-range operation, so the OTDR can be customized for specific test requirements. A power meter, stabilized light source, loss test set, and connector inspection microscope can also be configured in the new series.
Intended for outside plant environments, the field-portable MT9083 has a 7-in. TFT display that is easily read, even in direct sunlight. New function keys below the display provide shortcuts to switch between trace and event table views or to jump from one event to the next. The unit weighs 5.7 lbs, including battery and all options, and battery life is now up to 12 hours.
