AR amps instantaneously cover 1-6-GHz band

Test & Measurement World Staff - November 1, 2012

Two single-band solid-state amplifiers from AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation, the Model 15S1G6 and Model 50S1G6 deliver 15 W and 50 W of linear output power, respectively, across a frequency band of 1 GHz to 6 GHz.
The use of one band, instead of two, as with dual-band amplifiers (two separate amplifiers), not only requires less power, but also eliminates the need to switch from one band to the other to perform the required tests.

Both the 15S1G6 and 50S1G6 air-cooled broadband amplifiers provide gain (at maximum setting) of 48 dB minimum and small-signal gain flatness of ±1.5 dB. An RF input-leveling circuit protects the instrument from RF input overdrive. RF amplifier stages are protected from over-temperature by removing the DC voltage to them if an over-temperature condition occurs due to a cooling blockage or fan failure.

All amplifier control functions and status indications are available remotely through GPIB/IEEE-488, RS-232 hardwire, RS-232 fiber optic, USB, and Ethernet interfaces. The bus interface connector is located on the back panel, and positive control of local or remote operation is ensured by a local/remote switch on the front panel of the amplifier. Even though intended for bench use, each unit can be removed from the cabinet for rack mounting.
