Maxim’s 18-bit DAC targets high-precision ATE
Staff - November 14, 2012
With guaranteed INL (integral nonlinearity) of ±2 LSB maximum over temperature, the MAX5318 18-bit voltage-output DAC from Maxim serves as an accurate voltage source for industrial test and measurement, factory automation, and process control. The device also provides DNL (differential nonlinearity) of ±1 LSB maximum over its full temperature range of –40°C to +105°C.
Housed in a 4.4×7.8-mm, 24-pin TSSOP, the MAX5318 integrates both output and reference buffers. No external amplifiers are required. Buffered voltage output results in a fast settling time of 3 µs and a low offset and gain drift of ±0.5 ppm/°C of FSR typical. The converter’s three-wire SPI interface accepts a 1.8-V to 5.5-V logic input, while its force-sense output maintains accuracy when driving loads with long lead lengths. A negative supply option allows full INL and DNL performance down to 0 V.
The MAX5318 includes user-programmable digital gain and offset correction to enable easy system calibration. It operates from a supply voltage of 2.7 V to 5.5 V, and at power up, the device resets its outputs to zero or mid-scale.
Base price: $19.50 (1000 units and up).
