DAQ system offers 8 software-selectable channels

Staff - December 18, 2012

Intended for static and dynamic measurements, the Micro-Measurements System 8000 StrainSmart data-acquisition system from Vishay Precision Group incorporates a scanner that provides eight software-configurable input channels outfitted with RJ-45 connectors. Up to 16 scanners can be operated concurrently to achieve a total of 128 channels.

Each channel accepts signals from quarter, half, and full-bridge strain gages; strain-gage-based transducers, thermocouples, and high-level voltage sensors. A 24-bit digital signal processor and FIR (finite impulse response) multistage filters ensure good noise rejection, stability, and measurement accuracy. All channels are sampled simultaneously at rates of 1000, 500, 200, 100, or 10 samples/s. Every channel employs a 24-bit ADC that oversamples data at a rate of 128 ksamples/s.

The scanner is housed in a 1U aluminum-alloy enclosure and communicates with a host PC over a 100Base-TX or 10Base-T Ethernet network. An optional voltage calibration card enables system-level calibration of the entire measurement circuit, calibrating gain and offset of each channel under actual operating conditions. The company also offers StrainSmart, a Windows-based program for acquiring, reducing, presenting, and storing measurement data obtained by the System 8000.
