B&K Precision redesigns DDS function generators
Staff - January 22, 2013
B&K Precision has launched two DDS (direct digital synthesis) sweep generators, the Model 4007B and Model 4013B, which improve on former models with an enhanced user interface and lower prices. The new instruments offer an affordable solution to educators, technicians, and hobbyists who need an entry-level DDS function generator with sweep capability.
The 4007B and 4013B generate sine and square waveforms from 0.1 Hz to 7 MHz and 0.1 Hz to 12 MHz, respectively. Both models also output triangle/ramp waveforms from 0.1 Hz to 1 MHz and provide variable output voltages from 0 to 10 V pk-pk into 50 Ω or 20 V pk-pk into an open circuit.
Additionally, the generators provide linear and logarithmic sweep functions, variable DC offset from -4.5 V to +4.5 V (into 50 Ω), and adjustable 20% to 80% duty cycle up to 1 MHz for square and triangle waveform output. A sync output is accessible on the front panel for outputting TTL level pulses synchronized to the main output.
Improvements to the units’ interface include a bright, informative LCD and a numerical keypad for entering waveform parameters. Waveform and range selection buttons simplify adjustments, while menu function keys make it easy to navigate through the menu screens.
The Model 4007B and Model 4013B cost $375 and $425, respectively.
