Fast USB power sensors measure down to DC
Staff - February 11, 2013Agilent Technologies’ U8480 series of USB thermocouple-based power sensors delivers a measurement speed of 400 readings/s—10 times faster than the company’s legacy series—and is Agilent’s first power sensor with the ability to measure down to DC. USB functionality enables the sensor to plug directly into a PC or USB-enabled instrument to allow power measurements without the need for an external power meter or power supply.
The U8480 series provides power linearity of less than 0.8%, a built-in trigger function to synchronize measurement capture, and an internal calibration function that reduces measurement uncertainty. Two models are available covering frequency ranges of 10 MHz to 18 GHz (U8481A) and 10 MHz to 33 GHz (U8485A), with the option to expand the frequency range from 10 MHz down to DC.
The U8481A and U8485A thermocouple power sensors cost $2835 and $4028, respectively. DC-coupled versions of the U8481A and U8485A cost $3043 and $4236, respectively.
