Microscopy camera minimizes readout noise
Staff - February 25, 2013
Outfitted with a Scientific CMOS sensor, the Discovery C15 color camera from Aven uses a correlated double sampling- technique to suppress noise to 3 electrons RMS, resulting in crisp, natural color reproduction in any lighting. Video is recorded at a frame rate of 21 fps at the camera’s full resolution of 1270×1030 pixels. Lower-resolution images can be recorded at 38 fps.
The Discovery C15 yields a 16-bit smooth color gradation image and offers quantum efficiency of up to 67%, making the camera suitable for dark-field imaging. It comes with a 0.5X reducer lens, two C-mount adapters, and ISCapture software.
Images can be saved in four formats (BMP, JPG, TIF, and RAW) or as AVI files with the ISCapture program for Windows and Mac OS. Processing tools allow adjustments to brightness, contrast, and color balance. In addition, the software enables users to rotate and zoom images, as well as calibrate length, angle, perimeter, and cubic area.
The Discovery C15 color digital camera lists for $800.
