World's Smartest Test Engineer
|
Our Smartest Test Engineer contest ran from September 2004 to April 2005. We posted a new question at the beginning of each month and randomly selected a winner from all those who answered the question correctly. The eight monthly winners competed during the first week in May 2005 for a $1000 cash prize and the title of "World's Smartest Test Engineer." We e-mailed the final quiz question to the eight winners; the first one to e-mail back the correct answer was declared the winner. The winner will be announced during the week of May 16. To see past questions, the answers, and the winner of each installment, visit our Quiz Archive. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Void where prohibited. Must be 18 or older and a legal resident of the United States. For the complete contest rules, click here. Note: Winners of an MP3 player are ineligible to compete for another in the initial eight-month series. |
QUIZ WINNER ANNOUNCED

During the first week of May, the eight
finalists in our Smartest Test Engineer Quiz were e-mailed a quiz question with
instructions that the first correct response would win the grand prize.
Just for fun, you can take the final quiz question, and then click on the link to see the correct answer.
Question
You connect a series RC network to the output of a function generator, and you adjust the function-generator output to a 10-kHz, 10-V (peak-to-peak) sine wave.
You then measure the voltage across the resistor and find it to be a 5-V (peak-to-peak) sine wave. Next, you disconnect the RC network and use an ohmmeter to determine that the value of the resistor is 15,916 W.
What is the value of the capacitor?
